Hikaru no Go is one of these, which takes a look at the world of go, an ancient board game similar to othello. The story is about Hikaru Shindo, a sixth grade student who one day rummages through his grandfather's attic. He finds an old goban, or go board, and upon touching it he hears a voice. Startled, he finds the ghost of a man wearing the trappings of a Heian imperial courtier. This ghost tells him that he was the go tutor for the emperor of Japan one thousand years ago. His spirit cannot rest because of a strong desire to play Go. Now, he wants to play go through Hikaru.
